Robin Russell

 

Robin joined The Football Association in 1978 and from 1984 he served as a Coach at the FA National School.  In 1989 he was appointed Assistant Director of Coaching and was responsible for the creation of the FA’s Football Development Program, including the initiation of the Soccer Star Scheme and Mini-Soccer.

 

Mr. Russell was appointed Technical Coordinator in 1997 and, together with Howard Wilkinson, the FA’s Technical Director, co-drafted and implemented the FA’s Strategic Plan for all Young Footballers: ’The Charter for Quality’

 

From 1997–2003 he was responsible for The FA’s Coach Education Program including the launch of the FA Coaches Association, the Insight Journal, The FA Youth Coaches Course, The FA Academy Managers Course  and in 1998 the FA’s UEFA Pro License Course. Up to 2004 he was also responsible in conjunction with The FA Premier League and Football League for the establishment and monitoring of over 30 Youth Academies.

 

In 2003 he created FA Learning Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary company of the Football Association to co-ordinate and deliver all the FA’s Educational Services On He has been particularly active in developing the FA Learning Online Academy, which  includes a selection of over 30 Online Modules and Online Conferences as well as the regular Online Newsletter.

 

Robin has conducted numerous Courses and seminars for the FA in Asia, North America, Africa and South America.  He has been a regular contributor to UEFA Conferences having been on the recommendation of the FA and a member of the UEFA Grassroots Football Committee since 1996.

 

Robin has written four books and produced two videos for the FA with combined sales of over 200,000 copies.

 

In recognition of his work for the FA, Robin was awarded the Fellowship of the Physical Education Association of the United Kingdom in 1998.
